During the month of March, our Group 3 children have been working on creating bookmarks. The idea began when several children started bringing books from the library to aftercare. Excited to continue reading after school, they quickly realized they didn’t have bookmarks to keep their place.
Ella and Katelyn came up with the idea to make bookmarks for the class, allowing everyone to design their own. Lucy also joined in to help bring the project to life. The children worked together by creating a system—one person would outline a bookmark based on a chosen theme, while another would paint it.
This activity supported the development of fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, while also encouraging teamwork. Other children, like Sloane, were eager to participate, sharing, “I will help make the bookmarks by painting them.”
Many children requested bookmarks for their novels and were thrilled with how they turned out. The project also promoted concentration and helped the children experience the satisfaction of completing a task from start to finish.
It was wonderful to see the effort and creativity that went into each bookmark, as well as the thoughtful process behind them. We are so proud of our group and look forward to seeing what next month brings.
