Christmas Ornaments

School-age 3

Throughout the month of December, School-age 3 have been working on creating homemade Christmas ornaments as gifts to give to their parents. It started off by the educators providing a variety of loose part materials for the children to get creative with their ornaments. They applied acrylic paint onto their ornaments with a variety of different designs and themes. Avery said that her parents love watching the movie the grinch so she decided to paint her ornament with the grinches face. An educator ensured to help in this process by providing her with a picture of the grinch and allowing her to draw step by step. This provided the group with a great opportunity to display their creative side and expand on their hand eye coordination abilities, while they concentrated on the process of designing their Christmas ornament.

Educators wanted the group to put thought behind their ornament, so they ensured to mention to them to think of what their parents like as if in favourite colour, Christmas activity, and something that brings them happiness and joy around this time of year. Emily Z got creative with her ornament by adding glitter on both the outside and inside, snowflakes, and even painting the inside of her ornament. Some of the children decided to use cotton balls inside their ornament, replicating snow in a winter wonderland. When completed, the group used tissue paper for wrapping and brown bags to place their ornaments in for safe keeping until Christmas. They finished off the experience by designing their very own Christmas cards to go alongside with their ornaments.

Charlotte highlighted to the overall group, “I feel this is a great gift for Christmas, as we can add it to the Christmas tree each year.” Well done group 3!
