Painting Explorations

School-age 3

In September School-age 3 has been exploring all the new items on our cart, from building the Titanic, playing with clay to challenging each other at board games. We also tried to spend a lot of time outside before the weather starts to cool off and fall makes an appearance. We started to notice the leaves are staring to change colour into the reds and oranges. Such a beautiful scene that we would paint our own fall scene together as a group.

Charlotte and Ella created a layer of orange and yellow as the bottom to represent leaves on the ground, then adding brown to make tree trunks. They then decided to make a dark sky mixing blues and blacks together. Charlotte even added red in there with her hands, showing knowledge of mixing colours to make an effect. Later they then decided to add stars by flicking paint off their paintbrush, “I learnt this from Bob Ross” said Ella.

After working on the sky, they tackled the leaves on the trees making a nice red leaf tree, again mixing with their hands and making a real effect of an actual tree in the fall. This activity allowed School Age 3 to work together as a team and to express their creativity and use different techniques and skills, such as fine motor and gross motor to create a fall masterpiece.
