In celebration of Ramadan and Easter, the Preschoolers at RisingOaks|St.Matthew participated in the third annual food drive. Since both of these holidays highlight the importance of charity, compassion and community they discussed what these words in action look like and talked about food insecurity and what the food bank entails before creating a grocery list.
Using the weekly flyers, they carefully cut out and taped pantry staples and non-perishable items that they could personally select and pick up at the store. With the curated list in hand they excitedly walked over to the local FreshCo. On arrival, the preschoolers scanned each aisle for pasta, peanut butter, oatmeal, soup, and cereal; some of the most needed items for the food bank along with some items that they personally enjoy at home.
Through this hands on experience, the preschoolers embodied RisingOaks values of creativity, learning, community, advocacy and love. In addition, they fostered the values of empathy, team work, community service with so many learning opportunities along the way!
