School-age 2

The children in School-Age Group 2 celebrated the month of March by exploring the theme of St. Patrick’s Day. Educators provided a variety of engaging activities for the children to choose from, supporting both their interests and developmental growth. By offering enriching experiences, educators are able to observe and support different aspects of the children’s overall development.

The highlight activity for the group was making green cookies. The children thoroughly enjoyed this experience, as it combined play, learning, and the excitement of tasting their creations at the end. This hands-on activity engaged all of their senses, making it both fun and meaningful.

The children demonstrated a strong sense of autonomy as they mixed ingredients and observed the transformation of the dough, fostering a shared sense of accomplishment. Mathematical thinking was also supported, as the children practiced counting and explored measurements during the process.

Sensory exploration played a key role, as the children kneaded the dough, compared textures, and experienced different smells and tastes—important elements that contribute to brain development.

Olivia shared, “The best part is eating the cookies!” Benjamin exclaimed, “I like everything about it!” Olive added, “I like making them and I like how they smell, but I might not have one because they don’t have any chocolate!”

To complete the activity, the children added green food coloring, bringing their St. Patrick’s Day cookies to life. Beyond being a fun treat, this experience supported multiple areas of development, making it a rich and memorable sensory activity.
